Josie has been a cook at ESMRC for the past 11 years. In that time she has always been a person to go above and beyond her job. She never misses a day of work (accept to have her first child in September), is willing to come to work on her days off to cover shifts and most important, she treats every resident she comes in contact with like gold. She is one of the most caring persons I have had the pleasure of working with. She constantly is asking residents their dining preferences, hand delivering meals to those residents who can’t make it to a meal, and always has time to spend a moment with residents to see how their day is going. As a result of Josie’s efforts, no resident ever goes without a meal or snack, she is always providing special meals upon request, and does not know what the word “no” is. She is always the first person residents ask for and there isn’t one resident in the community that has a bad word to say about Josie. Josie always has a smile on her face and is one of the most passionate people about seniors I have had the opportunity to work with. Her enthusiasm rubs off on everyone she comes in contact with and she is always the life of the party. Her “Cooking with Josie” program is an ongoing success, the residents always look forward to come to class and see what they will be doing that day. It may be decorating cookies, making individual pizzas or cooking up a special snack for their fellow residents. Josie has been known to race residents in their wheel chairs up and down the hallways, getting residents to laugh that never do; or spend time with a difficult resident who is having a bad day and provides that special hug or kiss that will raise their spirits; and she always makes time to share herself with residents throughout the day. Josie is a day-in and day-out “Rock Star” in our community; each day she brings a smile to the face of someone who needs that extra TLC to have a good day.
