Eastern Star is a social order comprised of persons with spiritual values, but it is not a religion. While this is an Order composed of people of deep spiritual convictions, it is open to all faiths, except no faith. The stated purposes of the organization are: Charitable, Educational, Fraternal and Scientific. Eastern Star strives to take good people and through uplifting and elevating associations of love and service, and through precept and example build an Order which is truly dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness.
Freemasonry is the oldest, largest Fraternity in the world. A freemason is a man who has been admitted to a local freemasons' club, or "lodge." To be elected he must have satisfied membership qualifications and procedures. The traditional private ceremonies of admission demand truth, charity and fraternity. Basic qualifications are to be a freeborn man of full age and good character, and in most countries to profess a belief in a Supreme Being (without distinction), and a practical one is to pay a subscription which includes charitable donations. Fraternity requires religious tolerance and may preclude any political discussion. Full membership will be hospitably recognized at lodges all over the world.
